Professional Opportunities for Visual and Performing Artists

Note to Artists

For artists submitting an expression of interest for the first time, you are welcome to contact Gallery staff to discuss the process. One important aspect is clarity of message. Know what you want to do and how you’re going to do it. When you contact us to discuss it, we can help you edit and curate your ideas to achieve that clarity.

SAAG: Calls for Expressions of Interest

In Dialogue with the Collection: Fierce Female Artists

March 8 to May 17, 2025

A group curated exhibition in dialogue with specific works by women artists selected from the Community Art Collection.

This exhibition expands the stories of women artists who have demonstrated strength and resilience in response to significant barriers. Artists represented in the collection include Louise Silver, Marie Manson, Mary Thomas, Vivian Lindoe, Delores Purdaby, Faye Fawcett, Alice Montjoy and Chris Czajkowski. The specific artworks and short biographies of each of these artists are listed with the downloadable expression of interest below.

Artists are asked to submit the Expression of Interest (and if you are new to the Art Gallery, an image of previous work) by email before September 30, 2024.

Kúme

May 31 to August 23, 2025

The second in a three-year series of exhibitions exploring displacement of Indigenous trees, food plants and animals, and people. A group curated exhibition.

In Secwépemctsín, Kúme means "going to the forest to gather food." Many traditional food plants and animals have all but disappeared from Secwépemc territory, displaced by development, land-management practices, and climate change. Science and art come together to tell the story of the disappearance of these important traditional Secwépemc food sources. Topics include the sockeye salmon run, caribou migration routes, highway and railway development, forest clearcutting, berry shrubs such as cranberry, sxwesméllp, huckleberry and hazelnuts, as well as tubers such as wapato, spring beauty and avalanche lily.

All media welcome. Artists are asked to submit the Expression of Interest by email before October 31, 2024.

Guidelines for Expressions of Interest and Exhibition Proposals

What to Include in an Expression of Interest

Your idea:  Write a short summary about who you are as an artist, why you were drawn to the theme, and how your artwork will fit within the theme of the exhibition. Clarity of message is important. Themes are broad enough that each artist can focus on one aspect. Choose something that excites you.

Your medium: Write about the medium you work with, and how that medium supports the overall theme of the exhibition.

Digital Images:  Up to three images that show how your artwork supports the theme. Include title, media, size, and year produced on the file name or image list.

What to Include in an Exhibition Proposal

Your idea:  In your cover letter, write about your overall idea, your connection to this arts community, your plans for the gallery space, and how your artwork fits within our goals as an art gallery.

Digital Images:  Include as many as are needed to communicate how your artwork supports your idea. Include title, media, size, and year produced on the file name or image list.

Curriculum Vitae:  This document includes your address, phone number, email address and website, education, selected exhibition history (do not include open shows or private exhibitions), teaching experience or other employment relating to your art, reviews, publications, awards and scholarships.
