Salmon Arm Pride Project: Arts and Awareness Festival
October 14 to 17, 2020
Salmon Arm Pride Projectwas excited to present a four-day mini festival designed to bring awareness of the LGBTQ2S+ community through art, events, and education. Everyone was welcome to attend the exhibition, pop-up store, and live and virtual events. Stay tuned for our 2021 announcements and read ways to get connected, get creative, and celebrate the LGBTQ2S+ community in Salmon Arm. BC.

WINDOW DISPLAY COMPETITION OCT 5 TO 17 2020, DOWNTOWN SALMON ARM
There was a dazzling display of colour and pride in downtown Salmon Arm! Participating storefront businesses competed in 3 categories, and the winners were announced Oct 17th. In partnership with Downtown Salmon Arm and the Salmon Arm Economic Development Society.
PRIDE! THE EXHIBITION OCT 14 TO 17 2020, SALMON ARM ART GALLERY
A four-day visual arts exhibition featured individual and collective works designed to inspire, educate, celebrate and challenge. There was fibre art, painting, drawing, film, mixed media and maps on display.
PRIDE! POP-UP SHOP OCT 14 TO 17 2020, 121 SHUSWAP STREET (FORMERLY BLUE CANOE)
This was your opportunity to buy all things Pride! People could visit the shop from 11am to 5pm every day, and until 7pm on Friday to support LGBTQ2S+ makers and allies in our community. From mugs to masks, from flags to toques, the Shop offers swag for all.
PRIDE FILM FESTIVAL OCT 14 TO 17 2020, SALMAR THEATRE
The Salmar Theatre presented a Pride movie series.
LGBTQ2S+ BINDER FITTING SESSIONS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16TH, 2020 WITH TAI AUGUST (THEY/THEM)
Presented in partnership with Bras, Binders and Breastforms (BBB) Program. During these special physically distanced consultations, youth under 25 have an opportunity to try on binders to find out which size fits them properly and comfortably. Tai August (they/them) will take the sizes and order the binders from Qmunity, who mails them to us and we'll receive them in the mail! Ty will also be on hand to answer any questions, and to provide support. The program is provided by Qmunity and supported by the Okanagan Boys and Girls Club, and allows for youth under 25 to access gender-affirming clothing such as bras, binders, and breast forms, for free! They currently only have binders. About Tai We are pleased to welcome special guest Tai August (they/them), a 2nd year Psychology BA student, Etcetera Youth Group Peer Facilitator, and Salmon Arm alumni to the PRIDE! LGBTQ2S+ YOUNG AUTHOR BOOK SIGNING FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16TH, 2020 WITH LAYLA KUTSCHKER (SHE/HER)
Readers visited the PRIDE! pop up shop and met the author of "Barely Steeped Tea", a self published novella that tells the fictionalized coming out story of a Salmon Arm teen. LGBTQ2S+ young author Layla Kutschker (she/her) was present and signed 30 limited edition copies of her book that she had printed specially for the 2020 festival.
